Jackson County Republican Committee

The Republican Party has its roots in Jackson, Michigan. On July 6, 1854, outraged over the passage of the Nebraska Act (which opened new territories to slavery), well over one thousand citizens met “under the oaks” to denounce slavery, develop a platform and adopt the Republican Party name.
